Federal Marine Terminals (FMT)

Federal Marine Terminals serves as the general cargo stevedore for the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor. Locating at the port in 1999, FMT has been handling cargoes in the Great Lakes region and on the East and Gulf coasts since 1960. Established to complement freight operations of the Montreal-based Fednav Group shipping line, FMT is recognized as an industry leader servicing break bulk, bulk and specialized cargo needs. Commodities handled range from steel and machinery to forest products and containers. It is also known regionally for heavy-lift capabilities.

Lakes & Rivers Transfer serves as the bulk cargo stevedore for the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor. This long-time port operator specializes in handling coke, fertilizer, limestone, magnesite and grains. Lakes & Rivers is also known for having the largest clam buckets on the Great Lakes, which provides more efficient bulk handling. It has an indoor bulk storage capacity of 90,000 tons and is owned by Jack Gray Transport, a major trucking company in Northwest Indiana.

  • 2 - Manitowoc 4100 cranes with lift capacity of 60-75 tons
  • 1 - Manitowoc 4600 crane with lift capacity of 80-100 tons
  • 2 - 22-cubic-yard buckets with hold capacity of 18-22 tons
  • 1 - 30-cubic-yard bucket with hold capacity of 22-25 tons
