Louisville International Airport
Louisville International Airport (SDF) is the 11th largest air cargo airport in the world
and the seventh largest in the United States. Home of United Parcel Service's (UPS) national
hub, it handles in excess of 3 billion pounds of air cargo annually. By 2010, UPS will complete
more than $1 billion in facility upgrades as part of its "WorldPort II" expansion.
The Louisville airport provides service for commercial, air cargo, military, general aviation,
corporate, private and postal aircraft. Overnight and two-day delivery by UPS has boosted the region's
economy with increased jobs and more efficient and timely movement of goods. It is one of the largest
airports serving a city of Louisville's size, handling over 3.9 million passengers annually. Located
five miles from downtown Louisville, the airport is serviced by 15 passenger airlines and has recently
added two parallel runways (8,580 feet and 11,890 feet) that permit simultaneous takeoffs and landings,
doubling airport capacity.
