INDIANAPOLIS – The newly released Indiana Logistics Directory reports that Indiana is ranked in the top five states in 30 logistics-related categories and in the top 10 for more than 100. The Directory is published by the Ports of Indiana to showcase Indiana’s economic advantages as “The Crossroads of America” and to provide a comprehensive resource for logistics-related information, companies, maps and freight statistics.

Here are a few facts found in the 2015 Indiana Logistics Directory:

  • Indiana ranks first in pass-through interstates and rail shipments of primary metals, and is home to the nation’s largest producer of truck trailers.
  • The Hoosier state is also home to the median center of the U.S. population, and boasts the second largest FedEx Express hub in the world as well as the second largest liquid barge fleet in the country.
  • Indiana also ranks second in line-haul railroads, third in truck-tractor registrations, sixth in domestic waterborne shipping, seventh in NAFTA exports and sixth in individual cargo airport rankings.

In addition to rankings for over 100 logistics-related categories, the Directory includes more than 1,000 business listings, inventories of Indiana’s maritime assets, maps of key transportation networks throughout North America and Indiana for major highways, railroads, ports and airports, as well as logistics data ranging from economic impacts, freight traffic, employment, NAFTA trade and all transportation modes. The Directory is designed to be a useful resource for business executives looking for service providers, economic development officials advising new companies about the state’s logistics resources as well as media, public officials and educators in search of transportation and logistics data.
