Asia to Indiana Nonstop

[Sept. 6, 2013]

This year’s Logistics Summit will focus on great opportunity. Think about it: Indiana is known as the “Crossroads of America.” It ranks among the top 10 states in more than 40 logistics categories. It is one of the best places to grow businesses that rely on moving goods. By opening an intermodal terminal with ‘nonstop’ service to Asia, Indiana may have just taken its logistics advantages to a whole new level, and with it comes tremendous opportunities for manufacturers, importers, exporters, developers, agribusinesses and logistics providers.

  • Governor to open new intermodal terminal that will level playing field! On Oct. 10, Gov. Pence will provide the Summit’s keynote address and celebrate the opening of a new intermodal terminal that can make Indiana a Global Gateway to Asia. Intermodal is the fastest-growing mode of freight transportation and many Indiana businesses now send trucks out of state to access it. Because of its major importance to Indiana, this issue will be the entire focus of the two-day logistics conference.
  • Intermodal terminals are magnets for economic development! Intermodal terminals have generated billions in investment for Illinois, Ohio and Texas, attracted numerous Fortune 500 companies and generated thousands of jobs in the same way that ports and airports attract distribution centers, warehousing and industrial facilities.
  • ‘Nonstop’ service creates big advantages for Indiana’s importers/exporters! Like flying nonstop, this intermodal service eliminates the hassle of long layovers and potential delays in other cities. Reduced transit times for freight moving between Asia and Indiana means shorter supply chains that can better respond to market fluctuations, reduce inventory costs and provide faster delivery to customers.
  • Access to Asia means export opportunities for manufacturing/agribusiness! Local farmers and manufacturers now have a gateway to Asia right down the road. Even in initial testing, the new terminal has more demand for ag exports than shipping containers to carry them, and even more are in the works.
