Bio: Rick Heimann joined the Ports of Indiana in January 2013 as port director for the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor bringing with him 35 years of experience in the management of transportation, supply chain planning/execution and procurement. He became business development manager in 2017. Before joining the Ports of Indiana, Rick was with ArcelorMittal USA, the largest steel producer in the world. His group was responsible for sourcing rail and water transportation to support ArcelorMittal’s network of production facilities, processors and warehouses in North America. Prior to his time with ArcelorMittal USA, Rick served as the corporate manager of transportation for AK Steel focusing on both the global supply chain associated with the large volumes of raw materials consumed in the steel making process as well as the JIT supply chains associated with customer shipments of steel products. The opportunity to work with these two world class steel companies came after a 19 year tenure in the inland river barge industry with The Ohio River Company (now Ingram Barge Company) as the department manager for all inside commercial activities. The coordination of all pricing and contract administration work for approximately 50 million tons of commodities per year for the electric utility, agricultural, construction and steel industries provided an invaluable foundation for his future endeavors.

Rick holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and an MBA from Xavier University. He lives with his wife Debbie in Schererville, Ind.
